what will free flow of information do for your local community

Case study on Ljubljana Kiberpipa Hacklab + DIY tips

www.kiberpipa.org is a Ljubljana based hacklab that hosted more than 350+ free events last year, with 40+ volunteers, own video production team and high spirits for Free and open ideas.

In the process of last 6 years building it, we learned a lot of things and the fact that it's doable essentially anywhere. It's also a great way to rise the general level of knowledge in the community.

A hacklab, or media hacklab, is an autonomous technology zone used for the promotion, use and development of emancipatory technologies such as free software and alternative media. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hacklab

The talk will tell the story of how Kiberpipa as a place was created, and how individual projects within the community like "Open Lectures" or Gallery 404 took off within their own communities. Lessons learned in the process, questions we asked ourselves and problems we encountered will be discussed.

Some interesting spinoffs from the community as a way to grow such organizations will be also shortly discussed.

Connection to this years theme is that when you start organizing events and communities around free information flow great things start happening.
