The "free" of TRANSPORTATION or mobility
What would happen if your physical movement was facilitated by easier, cleaner, more secure transportation forms?
What will we see next, or is it more a matter of seing more of what has come out being implemented? Are there unnoticed advantages?
- Whether by foot, via (free) public transportation, free wheels...
"HASSELT, Belgium, June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- It will have been exactly 10 years ago on 1 July 2007 that Hasselt, Belgium got worldwide media attention for a very ambitious project: free public transport. From the very first day up until today, it remains a success story."
"Zero-fare public transport services are funded in full by means other than collecting a fare from passengers. They may be funded by national, regional or local government through taxation or by commercial sponsorship by businesses." - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_public_transport
Will we see more companies start to sell transportation across distances of 4-8 hour busrides for as low as $1? - www.megabus.com
"With 1500 bicycles and 100 stations, connecting other public transport stations such as metro, train, buses and major car parks, the red and white bikes are to be seen all over town. 30.000 (!) people have subscribed online, in these first 2 months, which is what you have to do to be able to borrow a bike. " - www.treehugger.com/files/2007/05/barcelona_has_g.php
... What are the effects on flow, sense of freedom, culture or infrastructure in cities when people suddenly begin to use rental bikes on a massive scale to move around in a city? An example from Barcelona...
a) What are other alternatives to these? How does this affect culture?
b) Why do we move and what intesifies movement?
c) How free do you feel in your every day movements, how satisfied?
