Free? What may we learn from prisons

You may be free while in prison and you may be imprisoned while free.

I propose a talk on the interaction between freedom and its ultimate opposite: The prison.

The prison is a useful metaphor - in literature, in psychology, in political science, in business. I propose a talk on

  • Free vs. prisoner; how do we react when we are free, how do we react as prisoners?
  • The mindset of the prisoner versus that of the free customer / employee / manager
  • Interaction between the free and the prisoners - whether managers, employees or prisoners.

In the talk, I'd draw on my experience from the prison world as well as criminological and rational choice theory.

Prisons We Choose to Live Inside

Makes me think of the Doris Lessing book Prisons We Choose to Live Inside.
