On Sounds And Clouds

How free is transforming music

The free nature of the web has transformed the music business for ever. Last week, more than 30 000 new tracks were released, and that’s in electronic music alone.
Whereas the music industry still has a pretty cloudy forecast, creativity and music production is booming. Distribution costs are falling towards zero, and you can fit a studio that used to cost millions into a tiny laptop. What was once scarce is now abundant, and the distribution monopoly of the 20th century is being replaced by something much better. In this economy or ecosystem driven by free, the key is to look at what is now scarce. Things like ears and time...

In this talk we'll discuss what's going on in the space, how the process of music creation is changing & and what the new, sustainable models look like.

I would love to discuss this with you, but whether it's in a session or on the corridors is less important. See you there, Eric :)

..

I really like the way you create communities around content and very interesting file-sharing between private and public! Love to talk more about this. Check out last year's presentation from Piratbyrån.
