Portable social networks

Using existing technologies to create open identities

Facebook launched their API this week but I don't know anybody there. Do I really have to register there to get the benefits?

And if I do create a Facebook account, will there be a new and better one next week, and then again? The data in social networks is an important part of our online identitiy. A part which we shoudl have more control over than we do currently.

During this conversation I will lay out a path to a way to create your own social network using existing technologies such as OpenID, microformats and POSH.
This way we can prototype decentralized social networks which everybody can build, host and link to.

Not everything is clear cut and even if we manage to build it technologically, there are still a whole lot of social implications.

This is a very hot topic and this conversation ties into previous talks in this Reboot on Soul and Trust and Networking Communities.

Join me on this conversation and let's see what we should build.
