REBOOT HOMO SAPIENS or RADICALLY RETHINKING MODERN LIFE?
-Radical Sustainable Innovation action through design

Can homo sampiens change at all? Can you? Are we so stuck in our old patterns and are we so stubborn that we will rather take it to the end ?

We have developed the most amazing things the past 5 to 10.000 years here on Planet Earth – currently we on on a track that might not be the right one so to say. We have to shift – did someone say mind shift?

WE HAVE THE MOST INCREDIBLE OPPORTUNITIES TO DEVELOP OURSELVES AND THE PLANET WE LIVE ON INTO A PLACE WHERE EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING CAN THRIVE.

BUT in order to do so a sustainable behavioural change has to happen – and can that partly happen through the internet and new media?

What we know:

1) A huge amount of knowledge (there is a bit here www.exdl.com or here www.rsi-allaince.org): Sustainability is an ’old’ but expanding field – how do we fusion the old and the new – how do we create a world where technology is used appropriately? How do we take ancient knowledge and make match it with entirely new ideas about life and how we can and will live. The opportunities are enormous – as totally incredible and exiting as well as scaringly bizarre in some cases.

2) There is a dramatic need for change (worldwide) – and new strategies – developed in new powerful networks could be formed to activate all of us.

What we need:

1)Entirely new ways of living our physical (and possibly virtual as well) life is needed – or rather we know that in case we want to give everyone on the planet relatively equal possibilities to live a decent life (whatever that is) we need to do more or less everything differently.

2) A behavioural change/mindshifting: Education, involving, understanding, integrating living.... from firstmovers / rolemodel makers to mainstream... from words & visions to actual action...

3) Radical sustainable action-innovation: develop, design and do new projects... & make very tangible project such for example Micro Living (see more here www.micromacromonde.com/microliving.html )

The question is now how to obtain behavioural change and action?
By being where the people are - the internet? By speaking a universal language - the internet? By connecting the world – the internet?

We might have to ask ourself what interacts across mental and physical boundaries? What is a wellknown maybe the best and today most common tool for engaging and creating knowledge sharing?...

Lets take up the real challenges and design solutions together!

Systems for leasing.....

A vast challenge to Niels Peter's notion the "materials of the future are leased" (which is gaining speed with the whole Cradle2Cradle mvement captivating even politicans ;-) is the logistics of circulating products and ressources.
What opportunities may be found in the IT and community tools, that most here are working with, to structure leasing logistics and motivations in the ressource/waste industry?
I am presently working out the inovation systems for the largest Danish waste management company, and we need creative ideas for bulding biospehare og technospehare networks based on leasing and other temp financial models...... Please get in touch...
Waste is the new black ;)

yeps - its so amazingly complex...and..its O WASTE or the eternity materials world also called 1000Y (projecting materialflows over minimum a 1000 years)

... its possibly one of the biggest challenges we are facing in terms of being able to continue developing a prosperous world - for everyone. we simply HAVE to get to terms with the fact that resources needs to be handled in totally different ways in order to avoid serious disasters - worse than what we see already. But the handling of waste is implicit or an integral part of our modern consumer lifestyles. Its therefore not - if y ask me - possible to change anything unless we create new scenarios where we show what the world of tomorrow could look like - a sustainable world. This we can do by creating kind of utopian yet very tangible concepts such as WORLDBY and MICRO LIVING that I was showing in my talk today.
There is no doubt that the REBoot COMMUNITY could be of enormous help with many aspects of developing these scenarios or "rolemodel projects" and particular - and right now here June 2009 it could maybe be interesting in having the REBOOT community looking at and developing the infra structures for what a NO-waste world looks like - an ideal model which can become a model for how we can innovate - radically innovate the existing system in new sustainable ways - RADICAL SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION in action. Its no way easy but its amazingly interesting and overwhelmingly challenging. My suggestion is that we start with a Blue Sky scenario - or rather developing models for a kind of ideal or should we just call it "sustainable world scenarios" - from the "ideal model" or the alternative model we can then gain experience through the dreams and concrete proposals we all can contribute with (Ill explain further in the workshop). To say it in a different way: By making new "rolemodel" projects we can inspire - and hopefully change many peoples mind set. This mind shifting can probably only happen if the REBOOT community really takes part since this community has so many creative minds involved - and as I sense it a lot of very open-minded people who are able to see the world in totally different ways - and thats what so much needed. If you want to continue the discussion on how we create a sustainable mind shift with a focus on THE O WASTE WORLD then please join the workshop tomorrow Friday here at REBOOT.
