Attend a Sankt Hans celebration

The celebration of Solstice is called Sankt Hans in Denmark...

...and send a thought to the women that were burned at the stake

After seeing Peter Rukavina's suggestions to go visit the Lousiana Museum of Modern Art - which I'd highly recommend, I noticed that they're hosting a "Sankt Hans" Celebration

If you're in Denmark early for Reboot 11, I suggest take you part in one of the few Danish traditions I really like, the "Sankt Hans" Celebration (it's really a celebration of Solstice/Midsummer), and Louisiana is having a celebration that sounds very nice indeed www.louisiana.dk/dk/Service+Menu+Left/Kalender/Sankt+Hans+aften

It's on thuesday night the 23rd of June, but there'll be celebrations all over the country.

The tradition is centered around a bonfire where a witch (relax only figuratively) is torched, and a Midsummerspeech, given by a prominent person.

As much as I LOVE the tradtion, there's nothing like a bonfire, I think that, figurative, "witch-torching" is going out fashion, and I applaud that! We were VERY keen on torching witches here, I'm unhappy to say, so you could decide to dedicate your Sankt Hans Celebration to the heroic women that were torched.

Read the heartbreaking accounts of Maren Spliid and the last witch to be burned at the stake, Anne Palles below, and celebrate these women as prime representatives of the Suffrage...That's what I do!

And my personal take on the Suffrage of the Witches

ps. It turns out the the absolutely last one to be executed for sorcery in Denmark was a man, so send out a thought for women AND men, we're in this together <3

Who else will be going?

I'm definitely going to this - first I'll visit the 'Green Architecture for the Future' exhibition, then some modern art, a decent meal, wander the grounds looking at sculpture, listen to the jazz and then watch bonfires by the ocean...all 40mins from central Copenhagen :-)

So, anyone else going from Copenhagen Central to Louisiana for this?

Here's some notes you'll need:

Peter Rukavina's got some good instructions on getting to the Museum via train:

And here's a English translation of the night's schedule (full page at tinyurl.com/kluxzy ):

Haven't decided where to go...

...Usually I like to roam from celebration to celebration.

One of the biggest is in Fælledparken, but I like the one on Islands Brygge.

This year I'm considering the celebration in "Enghave Parken", it has been GROWING, and this year it sounds "herrenajs" (Danish Slang for "sweet" ;-))

Here's a list for the leftwingers outthere - YAY! Socialism (in Danish)
