The Search for African Genius 2009

who can help me?

This will be my third reboot. I keep returning because each time I get ideas about how social media tools can be used to help communities get closer together in both East and West Africa. Check out the videos I have made at www.vimeo.com/user336991/videos/sort:date
Anyone working in the areas of mobile/broadcast/NGO's as outlined in the video vault?

Some examples of recent interviews:

African Video Agency - For Public & Professionals

I met Salim a few years back at Newsxchange in Amsterdam. He was trying to start a pan-African TV channel from his base in Nairobi, Kenya. Salim is a passionate media professional. He's the son of Mohamed "Mo" Amin who was a Kenyan photojournalist noted for his pictures and videotapes of Ethiopian famine. In this interview, made at the 2009 Global Media Forum at Deutsche Welle Bonn, Salim updates us on the current plans, explains why a lot of journalist training in Africa fails, and his vision for content on mobile phones.

Or check out www.vimeo.com/4389570 and www.vimeo.com/3942852 on mobile payments in Africa.

www.vimeo.com/4389570 on Frontline SMS and www.vimeo.com/3842011 on the great Ushahi project for crowdsourcing in Kenya, India, Gaza, South Africa.

In short, I would be happy to explain to those interested what problems I am helping to solve in that part of the world. Let me know if we can chat during Reboot 11 later in June 2009. I'll be there both days, Thursday and Friday.

Day 2

This idea didn't make it to standalone talk - but I see there is a session about Africa on Friday 1510 Session 6, so I'll be there. Jonathan
