The Ethical Economy: A New Humanism?
Ethics and economics used to be considered two different, even
opposed fields, but that's changing. New Media, new formats (like
blogs) and new information flows create an ever stronger pressure for business to behave ethically. At the same time globalizaion and the decline of national political systems mean that business becomes the main way for people to connect with and relate to other people around the globe. This new status of business as a new ethical medium has led to a wide range of new forms of alternative economic organization, where business practices are geared towards other things than making money. But what is the potential of this emerging ethical economy? Can it provide the institutional foundations for a new social order? Will it work as a new kind of humanism?
