Participatory Platforms for Democracy

Using technology and the Internet to make democracy transparent and engaging

Folkets Ting (litt. "People's Parliament") is democracy as a web site. We're screen-scraping laws and speaches of the Danish Parliament website and putting them online for the people to debate and vote on themselves. Working from this example, we'll look at what other people are doing around the world (OpenCongress, NY Senate, WriteToThem) and discuss how you can go about improving democracy with technology.

Folkets Ting came about because of frustrations with the Danish Parliament web site (ft.dk). It is old and not very interesting. Worst, it doesn't invite the people to participate or voice their opinons even though the Internet is the best platform to achieve

Was just missing a site like that yesterday, folketinget.dk is really less than ideal. Wrote this post about a related topic: ferrogate.com/2009/06/using-crowdsourcing-and-digital-publishing-to-hold-governments-accountable.html , but you guys are conceptually years ahead :)
