The Implicit Web as a Platform
How I learned to stop worrying and love behavioural profiling
Profiling is rampant - every URI, every click, every ad impression is aggregated to profile you. And it's not just Google or Yahoo or MSN. Small web companies, aided by ad networks like Wunderloop or Nugg.ad, are starting to learn more and more about you by tracking your every move online. Your ISP is flirting with Phorm or other technologies, replacing your DNS error pages or tailoring their messages to you by what you view online.
It's time to take back control. This is a proposal for a decentralized technology that will allow you, at its core, to take control of your data and manage your "implicit identity" online. Example: Do you want personalized recommendations from the New York Times but are clearing your cookies every week? Grant them access to your web history - temporarily - via an API.
More to follow but essentially this is a talk with Q&A. The objective is to assemble a group of technologists and coders to seed the project after reboot11 is done.
