Demo, and hands on workshop around conference | reboot11 6 comments

Roomware

making rooms interactive

the Amsterdam based Roomware guys have created an OS server to which different sensors can be attached. Applications in turn then can access the data from those sensors, and through the same server send instructions to actuators (projections, sounds, devices etc.) See www.roomwareproject.org/

Why not have them over to demo (some of them are Reboot regulars anyway)? And why not use the other days to build your own Roomware kits?

If so, let's do it before Reboot

So that we can use Roomware to arm the conference space with fun or interesting interaction.

Opening up a Roomware instance as part of a larger hack day would be awesome.

Glad to do it the day before, with Tinker.it if possible

I am one of the guys from Roomware. We would be happy to use the venue as a testbed to make some relevant stuff happening.
And use the expertise from the Tinker.it guys as well to get the hardware part going.

Tinker.it won't be making it to Reboot

The good people from Tinker.it will not be able to make it to Reboot this year. That's what Alexandra told me a few weeks ago.
So for hardware assistance we need others to step forward.

Or otherwise if combined with the general hack day mentioned elsewhere by Claus: www.reboot.dk/page/22447/en

Any particular kinds of input you're hoping for?

We should be able to come up with some; movement sensing, etc - or anything I can pull off my android phone (I can accces all the sensors on that directly).

Things I can pull off mindstorms robots, wiimotes, cell phones, webcams, we can hook up.

Should we try to coordinate some time this week, to get the ball rolling?

I'm in Copenhagen and can look at the location/talk to Thomas about it before the day before...

Is an old Linux box convenient to have around? I can supply such a thing as well....

I'm claus.dahl@gmail.com or classydee on skype. Let's try to coordinate so this gets off the ground.

Sensorlist update

Also - of course - bluetooth dongles for that Linux box, and tikitag/touchatag reader with and some unassigned rfids for that...
