What Humans Can Learn from Cats & Dogs
Running passion-centric online communities
This talk is going cover how a whimsical site that allowed people to make web pages for the dogs and cats turned into a 15 person profitable company serving the passions of half a million people. I'll be covering the early days of extreme boot-strapping, releasing code daily and nurturing the community experience. I'll carry through to the present day to cover revenue requirements, opportunity cost conundrums, feature development all the while stewarding a large and ever-diversfying community. I'll be making sure to cover what has allowed for our continuing success and what mistakes I wish I never made.
Finally, I'm very interested to facilitate an open conversation on the state of online communities, what they require (or not) and how they will evole in the coming years.
