One nice solution

Stephanie,

I really liked your talk, especially as an immigrant lost in translation.
Anyway, I know one nice solution regarding multilingual people/websites. It is on www.xing.com (previously www.openbc.com). This is a business community site, which allows you to choose your primary language and then add couple as the ones in which you would read the content. This is really simple and nice solution.

I do see this solution as an extension of "binary" approach to know-don't know language. It all depends - sometimes I am fine with a content in a language that I know few words of, but I do have one language that I set primary.

One observation: you have your OS in English, I do too. My primary language on xing.com is also English (not my native tongue). Maybe then it is possible to define set of 3-4 "primary" languages (English, Chinese, Spanish,??) and focus on getting switching between them first?
